As it happened: FTSE 100 slides as oil holds at $115; tech surges
Welcome back to the City AM FTSE 100 live blog.
The FTSE 100 is sliding after a bruising session for heavyweight stocks, while tech continues to perform elsewhere.
Brent crude is also trading above $115 per barrel as renewed diplomatic efforts in the Middle East raised hopes of preventing a wider escalation of the US-Iran conflict. But the discussions come roughly a week before the US midterm elections, after which President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested that military strikes against Iran could resume following months of stalled negotiations.
Elsewhere, in Asia, stocks surged after AI bellwether Anthropic’s eagerly anticipated IPO filing lifted investor sentiment ahead of a raft of tech earnings this week that will be a key indicator for risk appetite.
