Rio Olympics 2016: What to watch on Monday including Tom Daley, Louis Smith, James Guy and Missy Franklin
There are 14 gold medals on offer on Monday and a good proportion of those have a high chance of ending up in British hands by the end of the day.
A good time to take a lunch break from work would be at 12.30, just in time to catch the first heats for the men’s and women’s rowing eights, with Britain currently boasting a world champion team in the men’s.
America’s swimming stars Missy Franklin, winner of four gold medals in London, and Katie Ledecky, who won gold as a 15-year-old four years ago, make their bow in the women’s 200m freestyle heats at 5.02pm.

Three British boxers are in action throughout the day. Galal Yafai is in the first bout of the day at 3pm, before Josh Kelly and Antony Fowler go under the ropes at 10.15pm and 10.45pm respectively.
Men’s trap shooting, which features British 2012 silver medallist Ed Ling, starts at 1pm with the final gold medal match scheduled for 7.45pm.
Then Tom Daley will make his first appearance in the pool accompanied by Dan Goodfellow for the men’s 10m synchro diving competition at 8pm.
Kicking off at the same time, Louis Smith and co will be aiming to go one better than London 2012 and win gold in the men’s gymnastics final.
Finish off the evening with the women’s rugby sevens final at 11pm. Great Britain got off to the perfect start with two comfortable wins over Brazil and Japan on the opening day.
Or, if you can manage, stay awake until 2.20am when 19-year-old Brit James Guy will be one of the contenders for gold in the 200m freestyle men’s final, an event he won at the World Championships last year.
