Q&A: HOW TO GET DRESSED: CHIC FOR A FESTIVAL
Q. We’ve got a big festival summer ahead – my usual strategy would be to pack 20 outfits and to work it out when I’m there but my boyfriend is being v militant about our bags. What should I take?
A. WELL it’s easy for him as he’s just going to wear a tee-shirt and jeans all weekend. The trick for you is to take a small selection of options that all work together whether it rains or shines.
A long tunic tee in a light colour white nude or silver (we love the ones by eco Brit designer Knock Knock) can be worn just as a little dress over a bikini if its boiling hot. Tooshie has some beautiful reversible swimwear styles to maximise packing space. If it’s not hot but sunny then tuck the tunic into a print skater skirt to stand out from the ubiquitous sea of denim shorts. We love this season’s style by Gallery 4.
If, as is more likely, the weather is freezing, then wear it over a pair of structured leggings – far more comfortable in the rain and when dancing than jeans.
Take an oversized scarf to tie at your neck to keep the chill off and a pair of aviators to protect your eyes from glare. Tom Ford unisex styles might mean your boyfriend ends up pinching them himself. Save bag space by resigning yourself to one pair of shoes – a flat ankle boot to work with all the options above.
Finally a cropped leather jacket will protect you from wind and showers and a cross body hands-free bag, like Anya Hindmarch’s Belvedere, ensures you won’t be dancing round your handbag. Stick to that fashion capsule and I bet his jeans and teeshirts take up far more space.
