Sony unveils new console and apologises for elephant in room
THE other big announcement from LA was from Sony, which finally released details of its new portable console.
After issuing a grovelling apology to its users over the security breach that brought its PlayStation Network (PSN) to its knees, Sony showed off the Vita, calling it its biggest release since the PlayStation 3 five years ago.
The console, which has a five inch touch-screen display, will allow users to compete over the internet against both fellow Vita users and PlayStation 3 gamers.
It is expected in the UK some time before Christmas and can be pre-ordered for £230 for the wi-fi only version, and £280 if you want the optional 3G connectivity.
Sony will need the Vita to instantly perform after a dreadful year that has rocked its reputation both inside and out of the gaming community. Priced higher than its rival the Nintendo 3DS, which went on sale earlier this year, it will certainly have its work cut out.
