Sarries star Brits happy to sit out and cash in as understudy George thrives
CANNY Schalk Brits is adamant he will cash in on the talents of Jamie George as the hookers battle for the right to keep Saracens unbeaten in Aviva Premiership Rugby against Wasps on Saturday.
George, 22, is set to replace the South African as the leaders rotate their squad but Brits is content to sit out the odd game, having bet a friend three years ago that his understudy would play for England at the 2015 World Cup.
“I put a £100 on it and I said that at the World Cup after that he is going to be captain,” he said. “Jamie is an unbelievable character. I don’t want to big him up too much, he might get a big head and I try to help him stay humble, but he’s a top rugby player and a top bloke.”
Wasps’ 32-16 win at home to Worcester followed 11 straight defeats and, after a such a long spell without a victory, centre Elliot Daly insists they will not fall back into bad habits.
“We are obviously underdogs given how they have started, but we are very much up for it,” said Daly.
