Rai sees season prize money jump 700 per cent after US PGA Championship win
Aaron Rai saw his total prize money for the season rise by 700 per cent after winning the US PGA Championship on Sunday.
Staffordshire-born Rai became the first Englishman to win the Wanamaker Trophy in over a century when he won by three shots, from Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley, at Aronimink Golf Club.
And the $3.7m Rai claimed for winning the Major saw his US season purse balloon by 707 per cent, according to official PGA Tour figures.
Rai had earned just over $500,000 thus far in the 2026 PGA Tour season, racking up $164,000 last week at the Oneflight Myrtle Beach Classic and $136,600 at the Genesis Invitational. But those figures have been blown out of the water by his cheque at Aronimink.
The multi-million dollar win takes his 2026 haul to $4.2m and his career total to $16m from 123 starts.
Rai PGA Tour winnings smashed
His only other PGA Tour win came in 2024 at the Wyndham Championship, but he has won four times on the DP World Tour, including the 2025 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which saw him take home £1.1m, and the Scottish Open, which saw him claim £900,000.
“It is very surreal,” said Rai. “It has been a frustrating season, so being stood here is outside of my wildest imagination.”
The victory, the first for a non-American since Jason Day in 2015 and the first for a Brit since Rory McIlroy in 2014, will put Rai on the radar of Team Europe Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald ahead of the home tie against Team USA at Adare Manor in Ireland next autumn.
His previous best finish across the four golfing Majors was a tie for 19th at both the 2024 US Open and the 2021 Open Championship.
He finished 48th at this year’s Masters tournament at Augusta National.
