Clifford Chance signals confidence with largest promotions round since the financial crisis
Magic Circle law firm Clifford Chance said today it was elevating 30 lawyers to its partner ranks in its largest promotions round since the financial crisis.
The firm promoted nine in London: corporate lawyers Jennifer Mbaluto and Alexander Chester; finance lawyers Peter Chapman, Nicholas Kinnersley and Caroline Dawson; capital markets lawyers Andrew Kelly and Kate Vyvyan; tax lawyer Richard Kalaher and disputes lawyer Kate Scott.

Managing partner Matthew Layton said: “The voices of this group, and other newer generations in the firm, are essential in shaping our future in a fast-changing market environment. I look forward to working with them all as we help our clients with their biggest opportunities and challenges in the years ahead."
The firm also promoted nine lawyers to partnership in the Asia-Pacific region, eight in continental Europe, three in the Americas and one in the Middle East.
Average profit per equity partner at the Canary Wharf-headquartered firm last year was £1.6m.

Fellow Magic Circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer also had its largest promotions round since the crisis this year, making up 22 lawyers to its partner ranks, including eight in the City.
