Jockey William Buick has tipped Jack Hobbs to gain revenge for last month’s defeat to Golden Horn at the Dante Stakes at York when the pair reprise their rivalry in Saturday’s Investec Derby.
Buick saddled Golden Horn to victory at the Dante Stakes ahead of his stable companion, before Jack Hobbs was subsequently snapped up by the 26-year-old’s retaining owners Godolphin.
“I’m very aware that Golden Horn is the main danger but if I was riding Golden Horn, I would also say Jack Hobbs was the main danger. He [Jack Hobbs] could just be a horse with whom the penny is just dropping.”
Unbeaten Zawraq, meanwhile, is winning his battle to be fit for the Classic after the Dermot Weld-trained colt suffered an injury scare during a workout on Tuesday. Racing manager Angus Gold said: “Being positive, if he canters [today] and everything is fine, I would imagine he’ll be declared.”
