Scottish independence snubbed by John Menzies as aviation and distribution giant backs No vote
Edinburgh-based airport services and logistics firm John Menzies says it hopes that Scotland does not split from the United Kingdom as Scottish companies will have more opportunities if Britain is not split up.
“We don’t actually think Scotland should be independent,” said John Menzies finance chief Paula Bell.
“We’ll be so glad to get back to normal when it’s all over and hopefully the voters will vote for no independence.”
The company also reported a nine per cent fall in first-half profit yesterday, as a strong pound hit its aviation business, which carries out work such as baggage handling.
Turnover rose 2.7 per cent to £1.03bn in constant currency terms, helped by a net increase in airline service contracts, but fell 0.5 per cent in reported terms to £992.6m due to sterling’s strength.
John Menzies shares fell 4.06 per cent yesterday to 615p in London.
