Couch and Barrow seal bronze
BRITAIN celebrated its first medal success at the Olympic Aquatics Centre last night after Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch took bronze in the 10metre synchronised platform.
The pair scored 83.52 with their final dive – a back 2.5 somersaults, 1.5 twists – to pip the Australian duo of Alex Croak and Melissa Wu and create history by becoming Britain’s first ever World Cup medallists.
China’s pair of Wang Hao and Chen Ruolin claimed the gold, while Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion of Canada took silver. Earlier in the day 17-year-old Brit Jack Laugher, tipped as an Olympic medal contender in the summer, recorded a lifetime best as he qualified for the final of the 3metre springboard.
