Top Vodafone dealmaker set to leave UBS
SIMON Warshaw, one of the City’s best known dealmakers, is leaving UBS, the Swiss-owned bank.
Warshaw, who joined the bank 27 years ago when it was the old City powerhouse SG Warburg, saw his upward trajectory come to something of a halt last year shortly after the appointment of Andrea Orcel, the bank’s head of investment banking.
Having been released from a management role, the veteran focused once again on client work and recently helped advise Vodafone on the sale of its $130bn stake in its US joint venture to Verizon. It is for his work on this deal that he was nominated for dealmaker of the year for the latest City A.M. awards which take place on 31 November. Yesterday Orcel said: “Over his many years at the bank, Simon has played a key role in building and developing relationships with some of our key clients, alongside his varied roles in running our media, UK, European and global investment banking businesses. He has been a manager, mentor and good friend to many of our bankers throughout his long career.”
