Spotify becomes latest tech firm to be hit by data security breach
MUSIC streaming service Spotify has become the latest technology firm to be hit by a breach of user’s personal data. Although only small in scale, the incident warranted a statement on the company’s website from chief technology officer Oskar Stal yesterday.
In the statement Stal wrote: “We’ve become aware of some unauthorised access to our systems and internal company data. Our evidence shows that only one Spotify user’s data has been accessed and this did not include any password, financial or payment information. We have contacted this one individual. Based on our findings, we are not aware of any increased risk to users as a result of this incident.
“We take these matters very seriously and as a general precaution will be asking certain Spotify users to re-enter their username and password to log in over the coming days.”
Spotify is also asking all users running an Android app to use the streaming service to upgrade over the next few days. The company is taking extra steps to beef up security, it said in the statement.
Earlier this month online marketplace eBay was hit by a large-scale data breach which forced account holders to change their passwords for the site.
