Fifa’s Sepp Blatter showered with fake money in prank by comedian Simon Brodkin: “This is for North Korea in 2026”

Outgoing Fifa president Sepp Blatter fell victim to a news conference prank yesterday, when British comedian Simon Brodkin threw a stash of fake banknotes over the controversial head of world football. Brodkin – who uses the stage name Lee Nelson – said “this is for North Korea in 2026” as he approached Blatter with a wad of notes. 

 

 

Before being removed from the room Brodkin hurled the notes over Blatter’s head and added: “Cheers Sepp, it’s all there, as discussed”. The 79-year-old Blatter has been under fire since seven high-level officials were arrested in Zurich in May, as part of an American probe into alleged corruption and bribery. 

 

 

Yesterday’s conference was called to discuss proposed reforms to the crisis-struck Fifa. After being showered with fake cash, Blatter condemned the stunt. “This has nothing to do with football,” he said.
