Four injured at Alton Towers
FOUR people were seriously injured at Alton Towers yesterday after a crash on the Smiler rollercoaster.
The four injured were treated at the scene and taken to hospital and 16 others were evacuated from the ride, in Staffordshire.
Nick Varney, head of the park’s owner, Merlin Entertainments, said: “I would like to express my sincerest regret and apology to everyone who suffered injury and distress today and to their families.”
He said Merlin had launched a probe into the cause of the crash.
Merlin shares slid 3.46 per cent to 444p yesterday on the news.
