City bankers to hit the streets for Centrepoint
MOST bank executives are probably used to a warm and comfy bed somewhere in London’s leafy suburbs.
But tonight Credit Suisse’s UK chief operating officer Charles Egerton-Warburton is swapping home luxuries for a taste of what 80,000 young people in the UK suffer every day – a night sleeping rough on the streets.
Egerton-Warburton and 150 people from firms including Barclays, JP Morgan and BNY Mellon, will take part in this year’s Sleep Out event at West India Quay organised by homeless charity Centrepoint.
Having already taken part last year, the seasoned banker has given The Capitalist some useful tips on how to brave the freezing weather conditions.
“The first thing you learn is not to wear too many layers. With too many clothes you perspire a lot and then you get very cold. The second lesson is if you put a towel over your head and breath in warm air, that is better for you than breathing cold air,” he said.
Over 1,000 people will sleep out in London and Durham, which Centrepoint hopes will raise at least £750,000.
