UK is gloomy about future
JUST 15 per cent of people in the UK rate the economy as good, making Britons among the most negative in the world, according to new research first seen by City A.M.
And just 13 per cent of Britons are optimistic about the next six months, compared to 31 per cent and 30 per cent respectively in Canada and Germany, according to the Economic Global Pulse report from Ipsos Global Advisor.
Sweden topped the list of 24 countries who rate their economy as “good”, with 82 per cent of respondents positive about current performance.
The French are the most pessimistic about the future, with just five per cent expecting improvements.
Ashish Prashar of Ipsos MORI, said: “We in Britain are not the gloomiest but we’re certainly worried about the economic situation by global standards. With the cuts beginning to bite and fuel prices reaching record highs the public are wary of the next six months as well.”
The sharpest decreases in confidence were in Asia-Pacific. Sharp spikes in food prices in both India and Indonesia contributed to an 11 per cent fall in the number of people rating the economy as very good or somewhat good.
