UK becomes more attractive place to invest as foreign ownership of shares passes 50 per cent

UK share ownership has marginally increased to 10.7 per cent representing improvement from the record lows of 2010. The UK stock-market was valued at £1,756.3bn down from £1,777.5bn at the end of 2010.
The UK however remains attractive to foreign investors with rest of the world ownership standing at 53.2 per cent up significantly from 43.4 per cent in 2010. Unit trusts have continued to grow holdings an estimated 9.6 per cent at the end of 2012. Other financial institutions remained down from levels seen in 2010 at 6.6 per cent.
Ownership from pension funds however has continued to decline to 4.7 per cent down from 5.6 per cent in 2010. Insurance companies also continue to decline holding an estimated 6.2 per cent of value.
