Saracens close in on signing of Henson
SARACENS will hold further talks with Ospreys this morning as the Premiership club look to complete the controversial signing of Wales centre Gavin Henson.
Henson trained at Saracens’ base in St Albans yesterday after talks between the 28-year-old and the club reached what chief executive Edward Griffiths called “an advanced stage”.
“He was training with Saracens and getting a look around the club, and we were having a look at him too,” Griffiths told City A.M. The versatile back has not played competitively for 18 months owing to injury and off-field issues but is eager to revive a hugely promising career in London, where his children live.
Saracens are keen on Henson as a solution to their problems at fly-half, where young full-back Alex Goode is filling in following the long-term injury to Derick Hougaard.
Two hurdles remain before a deal can be finalised, however: Henson’s current commitments to television show Strictly Come Dancing and his existing contract with Ospreys.
Saracens spoke to Ospreys twice yesterday and talks are set to resume today in the hope a compensation package can be agreed this week.
