O2 boosts its customers and revenue at the start of 2015
TELEFONICA UK, the company behind O2, posted positive results yesterday ahead of a potential £10bn sale of the mobile network to Hutchison Whampoa.
It reported sales of £1.3bn in the first quarter of 2015, up 1.1 per cent from the same time last year.
There were also 133,000 new mobile contracts for the firm in the quarter, and 5,000 new pre-pay customers. O2’s total mobile customer base increased 4.4 per cent year-on-year overall, totalling 24.6m customers by the end of March.
Chief executive Ronan Dunne said: “This is another set of strong results with sustained commercial momentum being driven by our relentless focus on customers. It’s a highly competitive market and we continue to attract and retain more customers than our competitors.”
Regulators are currently deciding if Telefonica can sell O2 to Hutchison Whampoa.
