Nvidia to bring console quality graphics to mobile before 2015
MOBILE phones will soon rival the latest games consoles in the quality of their graphics as Nvidia yesterday promised to bring next-generation gaming to smartphones this year with its latest mobile processor.
Nvidia said its Tegra K1 chip would bring games superior to those seen on Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s Playstation 4 to mobiles.
“Over the past two decades, Nvidia invented the graphics processing unit and has developed more graphics technologies than any other company,” said its chief executive Jen-Hsun at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Smartphones are the fastest growing platform for video games with the success of King.com’s Candy Crush and Epic Games’ Infinity Blade series leading a market expected to be worth $22bn by 2015, according to Gartner.
Nvidia said its Tegra K1 will launch for smartphone makers to put in their devices by the end this year.
