Musk unveils Hyperloop concept
AMERICAN entrepreneur Elon Musk last night set out details of what he believes will be the future of transport – an air-propelled pod sent through a low-friction tube suspended on pylons over California, going by the name of Hyperloop.
Musk, the founder of Paypal and Tesla Motors, published an open source design of the concept, in the hope that others will refine the idea and eventually build it.
The pods in Musk’s design would carry 28 people each and travel at close to the speed of sound on skis suspended on a cushion of air. The $6bn scheme could be scaled up to carry cars, and power itself using solar panels. Musk has pitted the project against California’s $68bn plan to construct a high-speed rail link between LA and San Francisco.
