Living a sporting life in the heart of new business hub

New homes in Glasshouse Gardens hope to entice buyers eastwards to live in the Olympic Park
NEW BUILD developments are sprouting up all over east London these days, but Stratford seems to be quite a hotspot for them.
The former site of the Olympic Games is now carving its way into the capital, developing its own identity as well as high rise buildings and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is hoping to be its newest business hub. Around £1.3bn has been invested in The International Quarter (TIQ), a primarily commercial area for new companies to sprout up and old ones to move in and enrich the area.
But the first phase will feature a new residential development by the name of Glasshouse Gardens, a joint venture between developers Lend Lease and London Continental Railways (LCR). Arranged across two towers, 330 one, two, and three bedroom apartments will be built in time for new residents to make one their home in 2016. They have been designed with open plan living rooms and kitchens, with modern, energy-saving additions such as green roofs for absorbing rainwater and providing better insulation.
Kristy Lansdown, Lend Lease’s project director, describes the development as a “unique opportunity to live among, and make use of, some of the world’s most elite sporting facilities”, with the glow of the Olympic Games still a major attraction to the area. The Aquatics Centre reopened to the public this week minus its spectator stands and diver Tom Daley has apparently been looking in the area.
Developer Lend Lease seems to be something of an expert when it comes to revamping parts of London as it is also behind a major regeneration site in Elephant & Castle, and it won planning permission last year to construct 200 new homes in Battersea.
“[This development] represents a chance to own a part of the Olympic Legacy,” adds David Joy, chief executive of venture partner LCR, “and to live in a new part of London that is only going to thrive and grow as it develops.
“These early residents will be an integral part of one of the world’s most exciting new neighbourhoods and the benefits will be felt by all for many years to come.” The leftover infrastructure from London 2012 also means Stratford is impeccably well-connected. In addition to the Central Line and the Jubilee Line, the station runs three National Rail networks, the London Overground, two DLR routes and a bullet train to King’s Cross. Stratford also has two bus stations, its International station will be a stop for HS1, and Crossrail will pass through it in 2019.
Prices range from £372,000 for a one bedroom apartment to £775,000 for a three-bedroom apartment.
