Guildhall chases voters in local City elections
STAFF at the Guildhall, the City’s historic headquarters, are under the cosh to chase up errant businesses in the Square Mile which, despite several reminders, still haven’t filled in their registration forms to vote in the forthcoming local elections.
A dedicated team of three assistants at the Guildhall are currently spending most of their time bashing the phones to urge firms to return their forms before the deadline of 16 December.
So far, the team has been successful in registering 15,000 business voters from 3,700 firms, but the push is now on to round up those who are dragging their heels.
The cold calling is not without incident it seems. The Capitalist hears that some of the more belligerent City companies say: “Thank you for the call, but why should we bother?” Apparently they are gently reminded that voters can have their say about how various services in the City are run.
Any firms wishing to flex their political muscle must fulfil their admin and polling duties quickly, before the week draws to a close.
