Fuel tanker firms get back round the table with Unite
TRADE union Unite yesterday resumed talks with fuel tanker firms aimed at averting a strike.
The firms and union reps took part in talks at dispute resolution service Acas yesterday and are set to do so again today.
Fuel distribution firms last week granted Unite an extension to its strike mandate, which is now due to expire today, in a bid to reach a deal over working conditions for their drivers.
Reps for 1,200 drivers have “overwhelmingly” rejected an earlier offer, pointing to work standards and security as particular sticking points.
The government has called on the two sides to make peace and head off fresh panic buying at the petrol pumps.
