Food industry groups aim for £500m UK boost with new plan
FOOD and drink firms could serve up a £500m boost to the UK economy, with a campaign to promote local businesses internationally.
The UK food and drink industry, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), and the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) said they have spent a year developing a plan to grow exports for the UK agri-food and drink sector.
Now they believe 1,000 British firms could benefit from the joint government industry campaign – and boost UK coffers by £500m.
The groups aim to beef up promotion and trade development, help firms unlock market barriers and simplify paperwork to encourage firms to export.
Increasing dairy industry competitiveness, boosting beer, wine and cider exports and growing meat and seafood industries are priorities, they said.
