FOOD & BOOZE NEWS
MAKING THE CUT ON PARK LANE
Time was when about the best a Londoner could expect in terms of steak was the kind of abomination served in an Aberdeen Steak House. No longer. In the last 18 months, London has been sprouting quality steak restaurants in droves, and the latest to the party is Wolfgang Puck, the internationally lauded chef. A London branch of his Beverly Hills steakhouse, Cut, will be launching at the Dorchester Collection’s new hotel, 45 Park Lane, when it opens next month. Add to that a forthcoming steakhouse from Caprice Holdings in Grosvenor Square and the prospect of scene stalwart Hawksmoor making its City debut near Mansion House in the autumn, and you’ve no excuse for missing a 28-day aged Porterhouse Steak when you fancy one. www.45parklane.com
CAMDEN CARNIVORE CLUB
Camden’s blues’n’bourbon bar, Blues Kitchen, is launching what it’s calling a Carnivore Club. This isn’t about beef though – it’s about crocodile, zebra, bison, and kudu, which will be served to ravenous hunter-gatherers every Tuesday evening throughout August, with a different meat featured each week. Vegetarians best steer clear. www.theblueskitchen.com
LUSCIOUS LITTLE PLATES
Smart West London mews restaurant Angelus is getting in on small plate cuisine and has even given it a dainty name – “pichounettes”. The little dishes are designed to go with the restaurant’s exclusive champagne, Angelium, for a light-but-decadent lunch or post-work refresher snack. Yum. www.angelusrestaurant.co.uk
SECRET GARDEN AT THE BERKELEY
The summer roof-top sun terrace at The Berkeley has been transformed into a secret garden complete with box hedges, wild herbs and flowers, birds and deck chairs (see below). To go with: a picnic menu with countryside favourites and British beauty brand Green & Spring to offer the best of homegrown beauty. Through September. www.the-berkeley.co.uk
