Farewell to Poundworld: Struggling retailer to close every single store and disappear from the high street
Embattled retailer Poundworld is set to close all of its remaining stores and vanish from the high street entirely as early as next month, according to the firm's administrator.
Deloitte has said all of Poundworld's 190 remaining stores will likely close by 10 August, affecting 2,339 staff.
The discount goods retailer, which went into administration in June, had a 335-store portfolio and its collapse is likely to result in the loss of more than 5,000 jobs.
While Deloitte said it would continue discussions with interested parties to try to sell the shops which were still open, the final set of store closures follows several months in which Poundworld has struggled to find a buyer.
The news comes hours after it emerged that Poundworld will shed another 300 jobs as its head office and warehouse close.
The head office and warehouse redundancies took the total number of jobs lost following the retailer's collapse to well over 2,000.
Clare Boardman, joint administrator, said: "We would like to thank all the employees for their continued support and commitment during this difficult time. We are keeping staff appraised of developments as they happen.".
