Employment outlook returns to pre-recession levels across UK
JOB CREATION is back to pre-recession levels, with firms looking to recruit across the country – though London’s hiring growth is subdued in comparison, according to new research today.
Manpower Group’s latest survey of the employment outlook shows that eight per cent more employers are indicating that they will hire than shed workers in the quarter ahead. But in the capital, the balance drops to just one per cent.
The south west, east and east Midlands of England all have net balances of more than 10 per cent, suggesting that firms are raising their staffing levels more quickly than in other regions.
“London’s been a bit of a powerhouse in terms of job creation, but potentially it looks to be stalling somewhat in comparison to the rest of the UK,” said Mark Cahill of Manpower.
“The capital has been super strong compared to other parts of the UK in previous quarters – this may be a slight correction as other parts of the country catch up,” he added.
