Withers
The law firm has appointed Kenneth Mullen as a partner in the firm’s London office, continuing the expansion of the firm’s European commercial practice.
Mullen joins from Shepherd and Wedderburn, where he was a partner in the media and technology team in London.
He is a specialist in transactional intellectual property, technology and outsourcing, and technology sector regulation.
Alium Partners
The senior interim executive search group has hired Nigel Peters as director of its private sector practice.
Peters joins from Serco, the FTSE 100 service and outsourcing company, where he was business development director for nuclear and energy and managing director of the sustainability services business unit.
He began his career in the Royal Air Force.
Financial Services Authority
The City regulator has appointed Tony Hobman as chief executive of its newly-created consumer financial education body (CFEB).
Hobman is currently chief executive of the Pensions Regulator and previously spent 20 years at Barclays Bank. He has also been chief executive of ProShare, the Money Channel and the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority.
The CFEB will take responsibility for the national rollout of the FSA’s money guidance service, allowing people to seek direct assistance from trained money guides.
Syndicate Asset Management
The fund management group has appointed Neil Hale as its new chief financial officer and a director.
Hale, 41, has worked at Syndicate since December 2004, most recently as group financial controller. Prior to that, he was finance director for the Ashcourt-branded businesses before their merger with Rowan & Co to create wealth management division Ashcourt Rowan.
Mercer
Paul Richards has joined the consultancy and outsourcing group as head of the European real estate investment consulting arm, based in London.
Richards was previously head of indirect investment and global managed accounts at LaSalle Investment Management, where he managed global portfolios of unlisted real estate funds for clients from Europe and the Asia Pacific region.
Iimia Investment Trust
The trust has appointed Hugh van Cutsem as a non-executive director, replacing Nick Hodgson, who stood down at the end of last year.
Van Cutsem is a founding partner of Kepler Partners, formed two years ago. Prior to that he was a director at Smith’s Corporate Advisory and began his career at JP Morgan Cazenove.
First Reserve
The energy-focused private equity firm has hired Phil Burkhardt as an infrastructure asset manager.
Burkhardt has over 30 years of power industry experience in North America, Europe and Asia with General Electric, where he managed an 800MW portfolio of wind and solar power generation facilities.
