Cadbury asks for police advice over protesters
CADBURY owner Kraft has asked for police advice to protect its factories from protesters after City A.M. revealed it may be targeted for moving parts of its business offshore.
Kraft says parts of Cadbury will still be registered in the UK but that the ownership of most of the firm would move into line with Kraft’s other European operations in Switzerland.
Philip Green’s flagship Topshop on Oxford Street was forced to close on Saturday after a group of protesters glued themselves to its window in response to his tax situation.
Green has come in for criticism after saving an estimated £300m in tax by paying his wife, a resident of Monaco, a £1.2bn dividend.
Sources close to Cadbury told City A.M. the firm is worried its staff may be put in danger by protests.
A spokesman for protest group UK Uncut confirmed Cadbury could be a target but said it has not made any final decisions.
Cadbury heiress Felicity Loudon added to pressure on the chocolate maker yesterday when she said Kraft, which snapped up Cadbury for almost £12bn in January, “doesn’t give a damn” about the UK.
