Business school eyes town hall for campus
WESTMINSTER City Council is close to agreeing the lease of Old Marylebone Town Hall, the heritage building where former Beatles Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr both married, to London Business School.
The council, which put the 1920s building on the market in 2010, said it had entered into exclusive negotiations with London Business School, without disclosing the price or terms of the potential lease.
Under the deal, London Business School would take up most of the town hall’s 100,000 square feet in 2015 after the building has been renovated and refurbished.
Jonathan Glanz, the council’s cabinet member for housing and corporate property, said the deal “will not only create an educational facility fit for the 21st century in one of Westminster’s most recognised buildings, but will provide an opportunity for much needed refurbishment works to take place.”
The leasehold would expand the school’s footprint beyond its campus at Sussex Place in Regent’s Park, designed by architect John Nash.
