British Airways lifts fuel charge
British Airways yesterday announced it will raise its fuel surcharge on longhaul flights following a recent surge in oil prices. “BA will increase its fuel surcharge on longhaul services from Thursday, 16 December,” the group said in a statement. “The move reflects the substantial recent increase in the price of oil.” There will be no increase on shorthaul flights. BA, which is merging with Spanish peer Iberia to save costs, added that it would increase the surcharge by £10 for a single longhaul ticket, and £20 for a return journey. Crude oil futures last week struck two-year highs above $92 a barrel.
