Waitrose is trialling a new click-and-collect service that will allow customers to have groceries delivered to temperature controlled lockers in Tube stations and Gatwick Airport.
The high-end supermarket has launched the lockers in two Tube stations – you'll have to make the trek to Chorleywood or Ickenham if you want to be among the first to try it out.
The trial will be rolled out to a further eight Tube stations, although a spokesman said the supermarket had not finalised which locations as yet. Gatwick North and South
Terminals will also get in on the action, with lockers being set up in their Long Stay Car Parks.
The lockers are kept at “ambient, chilled and frozen” temperatures and can be refilled several times a day.
Customers can use the click-and-collect service online or through the Waitrose app, and will be sent a text message with a PIN that will unlock their food order.
Delivery options are the same as Waitrose's existing click-and-collect service. The trial will last for a year.
Waitrose ecommerce proposition development manager Andrew Newton said:
This reflects the changing way that our customers live and shop, with convenience a prime motivation for shoppers in the 21st century. One of the dominant trends in retailing is the growth of the 'transumer' - who wants to shop while they are on the go - and we hope this exciting innovation will appeal to those with busy lifestyles.
