Yes, but no, but yes… Ed’s way to help the Nos
Remember Donald Rumsfeld’s “known knowns” speech?
During a 2002 briefing, the then US Defence Secretary confused us all, saying: “[There are] known knowns; there are things that we know that we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”
Now, Labour leader Ed Miliband has come up with something similar of his own.
Miliband was helping the No campaign in Scotland (no, really…) in Blantyre, near Motherwell, when he said: “The choice in this referendum campaign is not about change with yes or more of the same with No. No. It is what kind of change you want. The change we need to build a fairer country with Labour, or the change of erecting a new border which is the only ambition of nationalists… The choice for social justice is no, not yes. Let’s make that change happen together.
“In summary, then: Labour is for change. But only a very specific form of change.” Glad that’s clear.
