A Wright good send-off as top PR Diage-goes
HE MAY have officially left the company at the end of March but Diageo’s veteran PR man Ian Wright only got around to having his farewell soiree this week (it would be a sin not to demand a party at a global drinks giant, surely). Having spent 14 years working for the company, Wright had a rather discreet bash on Wednesday night (with some big name guests), followed by staff drinks with Diageo top brass last night.
In attendance on Wednesday were some of Wright’s heavyweight political pals including the Treasury chief secretary Danny Alexander, ex-Scottish secretary Michael Moore, and ex-home office minister Jeremy Browne. Ex-Labour defence secretary, and NATO chief George Robertson, also trotted along (in the interest of some political balance, of course).
The Guinness, Johnnie Walker and the Tanqueray was flowing and Wright gave a witty speech, including a mention of about the firm’s phrase, “if it’s good for Scotch, it’s good for Scotland”. Cue some head scratching from the gaggle of politicos about how this mantra might relate to the Scottish independence debate.
