Workers face nine year wage wait
Workers face a nine year wait to get back to the level of real income they enjoyed in 2009, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) claimed today. Incomes have fallen sharply over the last three years, the TUC says, meaning that a worker on a median salary of £25,800 in 2009 lost around £1,600 by 2012. The downward trend is set to continue into 2013, the union says. It warns that when real wage growth finally returns it will be very weak – just 0.5 per cent per year after 2015. The average worker will have lost £8,500 by the time wages recover.
