Vodafone sells off stake in Fiji operations in £51m deal
TELECOMS giant Vodafone yesterday announced that it had sold its entire stake in Vodafone Fiji for £51m.
Vodafone said it had sold its 49 per cent of the company to the Fiji National Provident Fund, which now had a combined and indirect stake in the company of about 79 per cent.
Vodafone said it planned to continue to have a presence in Fiji through a partner market agreement, following the deal.
The Fiji National Provident Fund said it would continue to use Vodafone’s brand and some of the group’s proprietary services.
Vodafone Fiji was launched in 1994 and is after this deal 100 per cent locally owned. Its primary competition in the Fiji market is the mobile company Digicel.
