Stephen Green: Priest, ethicist and bank boss
Lord Green had a long and successful career at HSBC, spanning 28 years and leading him to become chief executive and then chairman.
But despite questions over how much he knew about tax dodging, Green is not what people imagine a stereotypical financier to be.
He was ordained as a priest in the Church of England in 1988 and has written a series of books on ethics and finance.
Green’s 2009 book “Good Value” was subtitled “Reflections on money, morality and an uncertain world.”
The book’s 224 pages considered “what improves the lives of the largest number of people” and “how should the financial sector respond not only to the current crisis but to the wider needs of the people it serves.”
In 1996 he published “Serving God? Serving Mammon?” illustrating his long interest in the topics.
