Ronson’s new home for Guildhall School of Music reaches milestone
THE CITY’S Lord Mayor and property tycoon Gerald Ronson yesterday celebrated the completion of the frame of the new Guildhall School of Music & Drama on Silk Street.
The school’s new home will make up the bottom two floors of The Heron residential tower, which is due to complete in 2013.
Almost two-thirds of the flats in the 36-storey tower have been sold.
The school will contain a 608 seat concert hall and a 227 seat theatre once it moves into the new site.
“It will now have the facilities to rival any in the world and, given the proximity of the Barbican arts centre, a cultural oasis has been created in the heart of the City of London,” said Lord Mayor Bear at a ceremony yesterday.
Ronson is assisting with the Guildhall school’s fundraising campaign which still has £8.5m to raise.
