‘Rolls Royce of whisky’ sells for world record £848,750 at auction
A 60-year-old bottle of whisky has fetched a world record £848,750 at auction in Edinburgh.
The Macallan Valerio Adami 1926 was bought by a private collector from Asia, who bid by phone, auctioneer Bonhams said.
The whisky was in a vat for 60 years from 1926 before being bottled.

Macallan commissioned Adami and Peter Blake – famous for designing the album cover for The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band – to design labels for 12 bottles.
Another of the 12 sold in May for just over £814,000.
Whisky specialist at Bonhams, Martin Green, said it was unlikely the whisky would ever be drunk.
He said: “It's the Rolls Royce of malts.
“Obviously we don't know what will happen to it, but anyone who can spend around a million pounds for a bottle of whisky could afford to drink it.
