Retailers predict Mega Monday rush
UK retailers are bracing themselves for a leap in online traffic this Christmas, with 2 December predicted to be the busiest internet shopping day of the year. According to research by Barclays bank nearly two thirds of high street retailers (63 per cent) surveyed expect website traffic to increase by 11 per cent on 2 December, known as Mega Monday or Cyber Monday. The first Monday in December comes shortly after payday for many consumers and in recent years has consistently been the busiest day for online retailers. Last year £320m of sales were made on Visa’s credit and debit cards, with that number set to significantly rise this year.
