Retail closures starting to slow
MORE British shops closed than opened in the first half of this year although the net fall in store numbers was 78 per cent smaller than in the first six months of 2012, according to research from consultants PwC and the Local Data Company (LDC).
The results of their study of 500 town centres showed 3,366 retail outlets shut in the first six months of the year, or 18 a day, compared with 3,157 openings. In the same time last year, 20 shops a day were closing.
