PM defends defence trade visit to region
DAVID CAMERON has defended his trip to the Middle East with eight leading British defence firms, as pro-democracy protests sweep the region.
Opponents criticised the timing of the Prime Minister’s trade delegation, which includes the chief executive of BAE Systems Ian King, as military dictators across the region attempt to suppress a wave of protest.
However, Cameron said it was “very much in Britain’s interests” to continue to promote defence relationships with countries in the region.
He added: “The idea that Britain should not have defence relationships with some of these countries I don’t understand. It is quite right that we do.”
