One man’s graffiti is a fund manager’s art find
CITY art fans may recall that earlier in the summer, a piece of street graffiti popped up outside the new headquarters of the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt.
One particularly striking black and white image showed ECB president Mario Draghi as James Bond in the film Casino Royale, posing with a glamourously-dressed Angela Merkel in the background. Not to everyone’s taste but it caught the eye of New York fund manager Daniel Shuchman. He has now bought the piece after seeing it online, and had it shipped out to decorate his Manhattan office.
The MSD Capital partner told The Capitalist yesterday that “everyone who sees it loves it” although he hasn’t got any more purchases planned just yet: “But I am always searching for good satire and perspective, whether written or graphic.” Any aspiring Banksys out there, take note.
