Why is Flash not working on my browser? Mozilla bans plugin on Firefox because of “vulnerabilities”
It turns out Apple founder Steve Jobs, who banished Flash from all his devices, isn't the only campaigner against the software, after Mozilla blocked all versions of Flash on its Firefox web browsers last night.
Mark Schmidt, the head of Firefox's tweeted overnight that the company had blocked the software, which is used to power animations and videos on millions of websites, after a bug was discovered makes the users of the browser vulnerable to hackers.
But Schmidt also said the ban will be lifted as soon as Adobe, the company behind Flash, releases a fix.
"To be clear, Flash is only blocked until Adobe releases a version which isn't being actively exploited by publicly known vulnerabilities," he said.
Jobs was famously anti-Flash: in a blog post on the subject published in 2010, he said the software was created "for PCs using mice, not for touch screens using fingers".
"The mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards – all areas where Flash falls short… Flash is no longer necessary to watch video or consume any kind of web content."
