Most London councils to freeze council tax
Analysis from the Local Government Chronicle show only two London councils out of 10 who have declared will be raising their rate of council tax in 2015-16.
Responding to the figures, local government minister Kris Hopkins said: “As part of our long-term economic plan this government has been working to give families greater financial security by taking action to keep council tax down.
A spokesman for London Councils blamed central government cuts for any future rises:
“At the same time central government will have cut core funding for the boroughs by 45 per cent – government spending has fallen 1.4 per cent.”
London council tax has been frozen for five years.
