Miliband: Fairness is crucial to Labour
NEW ideas based on fairness will win the 2015 election for Labour, party leader Ed Miliband claimed in a speech yesterday.
“Tough times will continue,” he said, acknowledging that spending cuts are necessary.
However, he also stressed that high government spending can be beneficial, pointing to schools built under the last Labour governments, and that such spending requires economic growth.
Miliband also said he will seek to reduce the income inequalities that grew over that period in power, in part by finding ways to pay low-earning workers more.
Bankers should be taxed to pay for jobs for young people, according to the leader of the opposition, and the government should support apprenticeship schemes by only awarding contracts to firms with such schemes in place.
