Labour denies Balls-Miliband rift after email row published
LABOUR insiders claimed yesterday that the party is united on economic policy after emails were published appearing to show a deeply strained relationship between advisers for leader Ed Miliband and shadow chancellor Ed Balls.
Andy Burnham, the shadow health secretary, told the BBC that “I can’t remember the front bench and indeed the wider party being as united as it is today”. Another Labour source said Balls and Miliband are “united on every key economic issue”. Emails published by the Mail on Sunday showed an adviser to Miliband complaining that Balls was muddying Labour’s message, referring to the shadow chancellor’s statement on last week’s inflation report as a “nightmare”.
““As an example of why we’re having problems on EB [Ed Balls] messaging – this is his current three part argument: Cost of living, recovery built to last, economy works for working people,” wrote Torsten Bell.
