iPhone 6: Apple expected to buy 194m smartphone screens this year ahead of release date
The countdown to the launch of the iPhone 6 has already started (13 days and counting – as if you weren't ticking the days off the calendar), and that means Apple has been buying up a lot of screens – 194m to be exact.
That is according to figures from NPD DisplaySearch’s latest insight, the FT reports.
Analysts expect Apple to buy up to 37 per cent of all LTPS (low-temperature polysilicon for non-geeks) and oxide screen technology, which is used for iPhone screens as well as other smartphones, though not all – Samsung for example uses LED technology rather than LCD.
Apple is likely to purchase 98m iPhone 6 panels to meet demand.
It is also still expected to buy significant number of iPhone 5 panels, 96m, this year- the most of any other brand.
