Insurers hit back after Miliband demands quicker flood response
THE INSURANCE industry hit back yesterday after Labour leader Ed Miliband claimed it is not doing enough to help those affected by flooding.
Paul Evans, chief executive of AXA, said his staff are “extremely focused” on getting people back into their homes. “Customers have no reason to fear their insurers will let them down, nor that our interests are not fully aligned in seeking a speedy resolution of their claim,” he said. The comments come after Miliband called for industry standards to deal with claims more quickly.
“Twelve months to complete an insurance claim is far too long,” Miliband said yesterday.
One industry insider accused the Labour leader of taking a cheap shot at insurers while staff are working flat-out. “It’s cheap, populist politics,” he added. “What Ed Miliband is suggesting just isn’t possible, it takes time to deal with individual claims.”
